Navarra by Sarasate with Maxim Vengerov and RCM students
Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra
“Sarasate Navarra, Op.33, originally for two violins and orchestra, here for ten violins and orchestra… Quite a feat, given the rapidity of the violin writing – and the stratospheric registers used, but the reinforced line worked fantastically in the more outgoing moments (and there are quite a few of them). It was at times a sound like no other… And one could only listen agape at the technical skills of this group of young people, led by their mentor (and I’m sure, hero), Maxim Vengerov. Remarkable.” - Review by Colin Clarke

The programme for Lucilla Rose Mariotti’s Master Final Recital offers a rich and varied journey through Romantic and early 20th-century repertoire. Opening with the lyrical charm of Sibelius’s Humoresque No. 5 and Novelette, the recital continues with the expressive warmth of D’Ambrosio’s Romance in D major and dreamy Rêverie. Saint-Saëns’s dazzling Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso brings virtuosic flair, followed by the emotional depth of Franck’s monumental Violin Sonata in A major. The recital closes with Ponce-Heifetz’s beloved Estrellita, a tender encore steeped in nostalgia and beauty.
